Contact Lens Research
Currently the top contact lens research centre in the world is continuing to accomplish great things through research done right here at UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO
The studies are non-invasive and all of our participants are compensated at $20/hr for their time and often get free contact lenses or glasses.
Right they are recruiting 7-11 year olds to participate in a 3yr study

Infant Studies Group
If you’re looking for something new and fun to do with your child, we would love to have you participate in one of our studies! Help us discover how children learn about language and the world around them. Typical studies involve a one time, half hour visit. Youth Drum & Bugle Corps
Great program for
youths in the KWC area. Our participants come not only from Cambridge, but
Waterloo, Kitchener, Brantford, and surrounding areas as well.
We are not the Scouts.
We are not the Army, Navy or Sea Cadets.
We are a the only Youth Drum and Bugle Corps in the area!
No experience required and we have a modest membership fee ($20 per year). We provide a unique musical education program that not only teaches kids to play music or perform colour guard, we instruct them how to march, perform and basically
just have fun!

Sleep And Your New Baby Waterloo Region Sessions
(various dates and times)
Session Details:
The purpose of the session is help families understand and respond to their baby’s sleep patterns and language, which will in turn strengthen family relationships and contribute to achieving optimal child health.
The 1.5 hour session will be offered weekly starting January 2016 at all three Ontario Early Years Main sites with a mix of daytime, evening and weekend timings

Earth Sciences Museum @ University Of Waterloo
Conestoga Rovers Learning Centre (the “Dino pit”) open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The museum’s main atrium, mining tunnel, Great Lakes fountain and stunning mineral exhibits open evenings Monday to Friday and weekends from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Kitchener-Waterloo residents of all ages are invited to join car enthusiasts as they showcase their special edition and classic cars every Monday from June 6th to September 19th. Show & Shine Classic Car Mondays will run from 6 pm until dusk in the PartSource parking lot at The Shops at Highland and Westmount (weather permitting).  Admission is free and there are there great prizes to be won.  Public transit and parking is available.

    Movies Under The Stars @ Shades Mill Cambridge (beginning June 10)

    Come watch movies under the stars starting at dusk every Friday night beginning June 10 and continuing until mid- September in the new outdoor amphitheatre at Shade’s Mills Park on Avenue Road in Cambridge. Please note that movies are sometimes cancelled due to poor weather.

    Movies start shortly before sunset, and the times vary between 9 p.m. during the longer days of June and July to 7:30 p.m. in September. Cancellations due to poor weather or schedule changes will be posted on the GRCA events calendar, Facebook and Twitter, or call the park at 519-621-3697.

    Grand River Bass Derby is a live release derby that takes place over the weekend. It offers about $6,000 in prizes to 800 participants. All kids 14 and under receive a rod and reel. This derby is held by the Stanley Park Optimists in Kitchener. The club raises money for youth projects and improvements to access to the Grand River. The angling takes place along the Grand River from Shand Dam to Paris.     Baby Farm Animals Weekend @ Waterloo Region Museum (DOON)

    10 a.m. – Experience morning farm chores.  Help wake the baby animals at the Bricker Barn.
    11 a.m. and 1 p.m. - Listen to stories under the trees at the Martin chicken coup then meet our baby turkeys and chickens.
    2:30 p.m. - Create a craft filled with seeds that can feed baby chickens and turkeys.
    4 p.m. – Help with afternoon farm chores then after a busy day help put our animals to bed in the Bricker Barn.

Join us on a walking tour of Springbank Community Gardens and learn about the challenges and solutions facing our honey bees, pollinator biodiversity, the importance of pollinators to our food, and what each of us can do to support pollinators in our own homes and communities. The morning will finish with an informal discussion over a BYO lunch at our Pavilion.

    Butterflies @ Shades Mill (Cambridge)

    It is census time...for butterflies! Participate in our Citizen Science series by helping us collect, count and identify butterflies and their caterpillars. We will supply the nets and instruction on how to handle these fragile beauties. Photographers will want to bring their cameras for this outing. Our findings will be uploaded to eButterfly. We will be off trails and in the sun; please wear a hat, close-toed shoes and sunscreen. This activity is suitable for all ages. Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by an adult.     Walking Tour: Galt’s East Hill (Cambridge)

    Put on your comfy walking shoes and join McDougall staffer, Joleen Taylor, on this historical walking tour as we head to Galt’s East Hill area.

    Jazz For Kids @ Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival

    Jazz For Kids is a fun and interactive activity for kids of all ages! Join Anneke McCabe in a drumming workshop attractive and fun for all.

    Anneke McCabe has been teaching for more than 14 years, both privately and with Peel, TDSB, and the Greater Essex School Board. Anneke plays a variety of instruments, writes music, and has played in many bands over the years. In all of her musical experiences percussion remains at the top!

In addition, London based artist Ron Benner, whose garden installation Trans/mission 101 will be on display on Centre In The Square's exterior grounds, will be hosting a complimentary Corn Roast. His research into agriculture and its interface with capitalism in the context of colonial and indigenous histories and contemporary politics spans over 35 years. Part installation and part performance, Benner will fire up his corn-roasting art sculpture--we invite you to enjoy some freshly roasted corn and meet the artist himself.     Summary:Join Jenna Quinn, rare's Program Scientist, for rare's 11th annual butterfly count. During this official butterfly census, we will be identifying and counting all of the butterfly species throughout all habitats on the reserve. From setting a compass bearing to reading a map, you will learn to navigate from one location to another around Shade’s Mills Park.     Calling all stargazers, volunteers from the KW Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be hosting an Astronomy Night at Conestogo Lake Park! Members will bring telescopes to help identify constellations. Highlights will include telescopic views of the planets Saturn, Mars and excellent views of the summer Milky Way. This event will start at dusk. The rain date is scheduled for Saturday, July 23 at 9 p.m.

    15th annual Afro Festival

    Summary:The African Women's Alliance of Waterloo is proud to announce the upcoming 15th annual Afro Festival. Afro Festival is a festival of dance, music, drama, art and African cuisine celebrating the rich cultural heritage of all of the countries that comprise the African continent.
    This year we are celebrating the memory of Sadia Gassim, The founder of African Women’s Alliance of Waterloo Region. Sadia found AWA in 1995 and worked hard to build a stronger community through richness of African Culture diversity.
    The 15th Annual Afro Festival comes up this year on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at Waterloo Park, Westmount Road entrance from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We are expecting over 5,000 people, over 50 agencies, community groups, several dance troupes, and traditional storytellers. There will be vendors selling African food, traditional crafts and clothing. This is a free family friendly event.  Free parking is available.

    Animals are well camouflaged and seldom seen by predators and humans. They leave clues such as tracks, scats, nests and dens. Join our nature guide on a detective hike and learn new skills to help find out who lives here at Shade’s Mills Park. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature guide.
